14- Conversations in English

I am thankful for the opportunity I have given to teach English here at the foundation. I found an ad a few weeks ago for English conversations with an American student and decided to send an email to say I was interested. Today, I met with Nicolás, a 15-year old from here, Toledo, Spain, for the third time. We meet every week and just have conversations in English. I learn a lot from him! He told me today about a rivalry that Quevedo and Góngora, two Spanish poets of the 16th century, had that drove Quevedo to write a poem ridiculing the other's nose. He plays double bass and takes lessons here at the music conservatory school, so we talk a lot about music.

I love that I get to do this especially because it reminds me of teaching ESL to the sweet middle school girls at Davis Emerson Middle School in Tuscaloosa. I miss seeing them laugh and get competitive when we'd play board games. I really hope I'll be able to do it again. I don't think my schedule allows it in the spring, but maybe next fall.

 Kthnxbai!

What a bittersweet sentence... I still cannot believe I am here, living in Toledo, Spain, studying literature and eating authentic paella and Spanish tortilla de patatas.  Last night, Álvaro and I went to the church of the Jesuitas. His friend was going to be singing there, so he invited us to come. After getting some delicious croquettes and walking in the rain, we went to the church to see what it was about.   It...
